Polyurethane insulates better!

Polyurethane insulates better! The success of rigid polyurethane foam in the field of thermal insulation for buildings comes from some key properties of the material:

- excellent thermal insulation determined by the lowest thermal conductivity available. Rigid polyurethane foam is the insulating material that, for the same thickness, guarantees greater protection against thermal dispersion.

- lightness that, when combined with the limited thicknesses needed to obtain high levels of insulation, allows reducing the weights and volumes used

- increased mechanical characteristics

- dimensional stability at high and low temperatures

- resistance to the most common chemical agents

- excellent processability that allows stable and long-lasting coupling to almost any building material

- fire reaction adapted to the intended uses

- compatibility with man and the environment guaranteed by the physical and chemical inertia of the foam

In fact, many objects indispensable for our daily wellbeing are made using polyurethane components: padding for furnishings and automobiles, toys, soles for shoes, sporting goods, yarn (lycra), athletic tracks and medical applications (cardiac valves, prosthetics, haemodialysis filters, surgical gloves, blood bags).

In the now fundamental qualitative choice of products that contribute to the energy efficiency of a building, polyurethane therefore plays an extremely important role as an immediate and advantageous energy saving investment, capable of significantly reducing the energy consumption of a building.

In terms of consumption in residential buildings, the highest quota, about 70%, is absorbed by winter heating of buildings, while living comfort is becoming increasingly more important, as is the reduction of energy consumption in air conditioned buildings during the summer season. These consumption levels can easily be reduced by improving the thermal insulation of a building envelope and the efficiency of thermal plants.
