“Elyplast” fiberglass by Brianza Plastica secures excavations
The “Elyplast” fibreglass sheets by Brianza Plastica have secured the excavations of the “La Valle dei Templi” in Agrigento, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, and a very popular tourist attraction. Studies and excavations in this prestigious area continue constantly in search of new treasures which bear witness to the ancient splendour of the Magna Grecia. From 27 October to 2 November 2013, twenty architecture students from the University of Tokyo, the Polytechnic Institute of Milan and the University of Palermo were involved in a workshop dedicated to testing new types of roofing systems for protecting the excavations. The workshop’s scientific advisor was the world-renowned architect, Kengo Kuma.
Brianza Plastica gave the students, coordinated by Professor Salvator John Liotta from the University of Tokyo, Professor Marco Imperadori from the Polytechnical Institute of Milan, Professor Fausta Occhipinti from the University of Palermo, the “Elyplast” product to develop the prototype of the new protection structures, together with the use of other materials, such as wood and stone.
“Elyplast” is the registered trademark of Brianza Plastica and is part of a wide range of laminates made of polyester resin reinforced with fibreglass. The translucent quality of the Elyplast materials allows for a pleasant light to be transmitted and distributed uniformly throughout the building. This important characteristic, together with the unbreakability, lightness and ease of installation and transport, allow the Elyplast sheets to be used in a wide range of applications in industrial, residential and agricultural buildings.
